THE Most Effective Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antiseptic – Oregano Oil

Oregano Oil is THE most, *** effective herb to prevent and even treat in some cases, cold and flu because of its expectorant, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.  Oregano oil can treat both the symptoms and underlying infections.

Oregano oil is effective when your immune or respiratory systems are under attack and a little prevention can go a long way.  It has a moderate amount of vitamin C which can stimulate the white blood cells to offset a cold virus or bacterial infection.   It is also helpful to heal the tissues that may be compromised during sickness, because of the interaction between Vitamin C and collagen in the body.  It has a high level of carvacrol, thymol and rosmarinic acids, which are phenolic compounds found also in thyme, and rosemary.

I do not advise ingesting straight essential oil, but rather one that is prepared in a carrier oil.

Direct Drops
Some of the best ways to use oregano oil would be in single drops (about 4-6) under the tongue or down your throat 2-3x per day, to help ward off increased bacterial activity.  You may also try dropping the drops in a teaspoon of honey or juice.  I use 4 drops per day for prevention of cold and flu and increase a few drops during illness (but I have not needed to in a few years).  When first using as a prevention, you might experience some symptoms if there are bacteria present already.  This is called a “healing crisis” and is normal and temporary.

Steamed Infusion
This is most effective when there is upper respiratory congestion. You will need a towel to cover your head.  Boil a saucepan of water then transfer to the bowl.  Add a few drops of oregano essential oil to the hot water.   Inhale the vapors while head is covered but be careful not to take in deep breaths as this can be extremely potent.  Short inhalations are effective for decongesting the sinus cavity and relieving pressure.

As a Rub
Try diluting a few drops of oregano oil in a tablespoon of coconut oil (or your favorite carrier oil) and rub on the chest to relieve lung congestion.   Avoid getting near the eyes.
